A Night to Remember: Loverboy Delivers Intimate Performance in Mayetta
Legendary Canadian rock group Loverboy delivered an ultra-nostalgic, pulse-pounding performance at Prairie Band Casino in Mayetta, KS on July 24, 2025, headlining a rare solo show in the state. Fans who have only caught the band in recent years performing in the KC region as openers for acts like Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and Styx were treated to something special—a full headlining set packed with deep cuts and fan favorites that usually get trimmed when Loverboy plays support slots. The Great Lakes Ballroom offered an intimate, no-bad-seat experience where every synth stab and guitar riff landed with punchy clarity.
The night started with a more subdued crowd, as fans eased into the show with cautious toe-taps and polite applause. But once the band tore into “The Kid Is Hot Tonite,” the energy in the room erupted. Midway through the set, it was all fists in the air and choruses shouted back at the stage. The band’s chemistry was undeniable as founding members Reno and guitarist Paul Dean trading smiles and solos like it was still 1981. Founding members, keyboardist Doug Johnson and drummer Matt Frenette, are both still with the band as well—and bass guitarist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve of Streetheart has played with them for nearly a quarter century now. The setlist was a satisfying blend of hits and rarely played gems, giving diehard fans something to truly savor.
A standout moment came when Loverboy slowed things down for a heartfelt dedication of “This Could Be the Night” to Ozzy Osbourne—an unexpected and touching tribute that caught the audience off guard in the best way. It was the kind of moment you don’t get at a big summer shed tour. Instead, it felt personal—almost like the band was playing just for you. In a venue where the back row still feels close to the action, Loverboy reminded everyone why they’re more than just an opening act. The night was full of raw spirit, ever song a moment shared, music so timeless impeccably connecting heart to stage. For longtime fans and new believers alike, this was a night that will last forever.
