English rock band Genesis revealed its best-selling album “Invisible Touch” on this day in 1986. After a brief hiatus which saw the members resuming solo careers, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks reconvened to produce their fourth No. 1 record in their native UK. It also reached No. 3 in the United States and even spawned five Top 5 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including the title track, which topped the chart, plus “In Too Deep” [No. 3], “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight” [No. 3], “Throwing It All Away” [No. 4] and “Land of Confusion” [No. 4]. No pre-recording material was ever developed, they simply went to the studio and extemporized all eight tunes. Released by Charisma Records, the synthpop album has sold more than 6 million copies just in the US.
