Town Center Plaza Featured A Flock of Seagulls as the Headlining Act of Sunset Music Fest 2019

Sunset Music Fest returned to Town Center Plaza in Leawood, KS again this summer for its annual Thursday night concert series in the month of June. Headlining the final evening of the festival was none other than English new wave band A Flock of Seagulls on June 27, 2019. After an energetic performance by Kansas City cover band The Zeros, the iconic group swarmed the stage with the staple sounds that define the 1980s.

With its pioneering music coupled alongside a charismatic style and appearance, A Flock of Seagulls became an international sensation during the Second British Invasion. The band had a string of hits starting with “I Ran (So Far Away),” which received heavy airplay on MTV in 1982. That hit was succeeded by “Space Age Love Song”—also from its self-titled debut album—”Wishing (If I Had a Photography of You)” and “The More You Live, the More You Love.” Led by founder, frontman and keyboardist Mike Score, A Flock of Seagulls featuring Pando (bass guitar), Kevin Rankin (drums) and Gord Deppe (guitar) dazzled a jam-packed Town Center Plaza crowd with all of these beloved hits and more from the decade.

It was a absolute rare opportunity indeed to catch A Flock of Seagulls in the Kansas City area. Yet, it is exactly what we are yearning. The ’80s music fan base in KC is very much alive and AFOS was the perfect band to suffice that insatiable new wave craving. The band represents not only the music of the decade, but is incredibly emblematic of the era’s culture. It truly transcends time and this concert was a major home run for the festival. With fortune, we won’t have to wait so long for its next return. However, you can catch A Flock of Seagulls again this summer on an exciting road trip extravaganza as the band headlines the Lost 80’s Live tour kicking off in early August.
