Star Pavilion Hosts Second Air Supply 50th Anniversary Concert
The 50th anniversary tour of Australian soft rock duo Air Supply returned to Star Pavilion inside of Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, MO on March 28, 2026. It was another sold-out evening filled with nostalgia, romance, and melodies as fresh as ever—ones that have made the duo a longstanding favorite. Even with changes on stage and behind the scenes, the energy in the room remained warm, celebratory, and deeply connected to the music.
At the center of the night, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell offered a heartfelt and engaging performance, reminding the audience why their songs continue to resonate across generations. Their chemistry remains effortless and genuine, with every lyric and harmony drawing strong emotional reactions from the crowd.
A notable shift in the lineup came with the absence of longtime lead guitarist and musical director Aaron Mclain, who announced his departure just two days prior to the show. While his presence was missed, the show moved forward with confidence and continuity, honoring the musical foundation he helped shape throughout the years. Taking on the role of musical director was Mirko Tessandori. He performed on piano once again (rather than his customary keyboard) and was positioned on the opposite side of the stage, bringing a steady, familiar presence to the arrangement.
The audience—made up of both longtime fans and first-time attendees—was fully engaged throughout the evening as the band performed signature hits including All Out of Love, Lost in Love, and Making Love Out of Nothing at All. Each song was met with enthusiastic applause and singalongs, reinforcing the duo’s enduring connection with their fans.
Rounding out the performance was a strong supporting ensemble featuring Doug Gild on bass, Pavel Valdman on drums and two returning guest violinists who added richness and depth to the arrangements. A new lighting director also introduced a refreshed visual style, with a darker, moodier stage design and no background color, creating a more intimate focus on the performers and the music itself.
