Knuckleheads Presented The Bacon Brothers Live at the Folly Theater on October 8, 2019

Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael—country and folk rock duo The Bacon Brothers—performed live at Folly Theater in downtown Kansas City, MO on October 8, 2019.  In presentation by Knuckleheads, the concert featured the captivating duo on “The Shaky Ground” tour supporting their newly released eponymous record and its single, “Play.” Local favorite and Knuckleheads Saloon regular The Nace Brothers opened the night with a rousing stripped down performance to liven the crowd.

The Bacon Brothers have performed together almost all of their lives, though it was in 1995 when they began touring and recording. Featuring nearly all original tunes, their set highlighted many of those from the new record. As always, a plethora of instruments filled the stage with both brothers spending time on the acoustic guitar, while Kevin also on the bongo drums, harmonica and ukulele plus Michael on the electric guitar and even the cello. Backing them on stage was the consistent lineup of ever-extraordinaire artists, including Paul Guzzone (bass), Joe Mennonna (keyboard/saxophone/accordion), Frank Vilardi (drums) and Tim Quick (guitar).

It was again a magnificent evening bursting with true musicianship. The Bacon Brothers came to town last year with a live show at VooDoo Lounge. This time around, however, it had a totally different feel going from a flashy casino atmosphere to a low-lit, intimate and historic theater setting. The set delivered some of the same great tunes, but varied awesomely from the previous visit. They sure got fans on their feet and even treated them to a cover of the Kenny Loggins 1984 chart-topping hit “Footloose” from Kevin’s blockbuster movie by the same name. Undoubtedly, the Bacon Brothers following in Kansas City continues to grow.
