David Byrne’s “American Utopia” Tour to Make a Stop at Kauffman Center

Renown new wave artist and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne announced North American concert tour dates for the summer of 2018 in support of his new album “American Utopia” set for release on March 9. The routing starts on March 3 at Count Bassie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ and is scheduled to hit Muriel Kauffman Theatre at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, MO on Thursday, June 7.

As the lead singer of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Talking Heads, Byrne released such hits as “Take Me to the River,” “Once in a Lifetime,” “Burning Down the House” and “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody).” He has several accolades as a solo artist, film director, author and photographer, including Academy and Golden Globe awards for his score for “The Last Emperor” (1987), as well as recent full-length collaborations with the likes of Brian Eno, St. Vincent and Fatboy Slim.

“American Utopia” is David Byrne’s first solo album release in 14 years. The tour dates are guaranteed to feature songs from the the record plus other solo tunes and hits from his career with the Talking Heads. A 12-piece, untethered band will join him for these totally choreographed performances, which he dubbed as “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for “Stop Making Sense,” the band’s concert film from 1984. 

Tickets for the David Byrne performance in Kansas City range from $54 to $194 and are available online and in person via the venue box office or by calling 816-994-7222 starting at 10am on Tuesday, January 23. Kauffman Center is located at 1601 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64108. Doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7:30pm.
