Kauffman Center Hosts Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in Kansas City

Oh, what a night! A pun that has probably been overused throughout the last nearly 50 years, but there just simply are no better words. It may be the most highly-anticipated concert ever in Kansas City, certainly at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. More than two years and four rescheduled dates later after it was first announced due to the pandemic and a minor surgery, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons performed live in front of a sold crowd inside of Muriel Kauffman Theatre on June 4, 2022.

There will absolutely never be a show quite like it. Frankie Valli, the Four Seasons and the band made an elderly crowd feel ever-so young again as they sang, danced and played. Even the brass section and the guitarists were dancing away. Plus, Robby Robinson, keyboardist and musical director for Frankie throughout the last 44 years, lifted the spirit and brought all the pieces together. At 88 years old, Frankie himself proved that age is just a number as he dazzled with his symbolic and forever-endearing falsetto voice. And the harmonies and choreographed dance moves of the Four Seasons were off the charts. The venue was built to perfection for sound, but somehow they took it to another level.

Frankie Valli’s career is pushing 70 years and includes a plethora of hits—many chart-topping ones—which he shared during his two-set performance, and he never slowed down for a moment, never sat once. He even got in some fancy footwork of his own along with the Four Seasons. The night boasted all of those most beloved classics, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “My Eyes Adored You” and “Grease.” The night may be best described in one amazing, heartwarming visual—an 80-something young lady from the front row of parterre throwing up double “I love you” hand gestures as she reveled in the experience.
