LRB Performed at Ameristar Casino in Kansas City on May 4, 2018

Dearly beloved rock group Little River Band (LRB) performed live at Star Pavilion inside of Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City on May 4, 2018. Fronted by bass player and KC native Wayne Nelson, the members dazzled the crowd with their signature sound that has transcended across continents for more than 40 years. The band formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1975. While touring with Jim Messina and opening for LRB, management asked Nelson to join its band, which he officially did in 1980.

Although he moved away from Kansas City at a very early age, Nelson sure seemed like he was right at home. In fact, he stated that Star Pavilion is the band’s “favorite venue on Earth” in which to perform. The relationship was certainly mutualistic though as the crowd reveled in the music throughout the night. It was the crowd’s party and the band was only there to perform he stated as he invited everyone toward the stage, and party they sure did.

Joining Wayne Nelson on stage were Chris Marion (keywords/vocals), Rich Herring (lead guitar/vocals), Ryan Ricks (drums/vocals) and Colin Whinnery (rhythm guitar/vocals). Their set included a couple of newer tunes alongside those classic staples such as “The Night Owls” and “Take It Easy on Me,” which were hits in the early-’80s with Nelson on lead vocals. The impeccable harmonies, melodic sounds and long play on songs had fans hooked for the evening.

Closing it out with an extended performance of “Lonesome Loser,” all fans were on their feet and singing at the top of their lungs. Kansas City undoubtedly loves Wayne Nelson and Little River Band, and LRB is certain to return yet once again to Star Pavilion. Fingers crossed it is sooner than later, it is a show never to miss as Nelson passionately and perfectly carries on the torch throughout the modern era.
