Peter Cetera Performed Live at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City on Sunday, February 18, 2018

It was a blockbuster of an announcement this past December when Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts released news of legendary solo artist and original Chicago singer, songwriter and bass player Peter Cetera to kick off the 2018 Kauffman Center Presents season. The concert itself lived up to absolutely all of the hype and much more as Cetera delivered all of his hit songs that defined his two-part career and a generation of music. He created the perfect Valentine’s Day weekend outing in Kansas City right inside our eternally beloved venue.

Backed by his 7-member band, Cetera entertained with his ageless voice on timeless hits with Chicago such as “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” and “You’re the Inspiration” to those from his solo career like “Glory of Love” and “The Next Time I Fall.” After nearly five decades—as mentioned, but ever so evident in his performance—Cetera never gets tired of singing his songs. He put every ounce of his soul into each and every note while brandishing the mic stand as an extension of himself.

For 105 minutes, Cetera and the band took the crowd through ups and downs with his infinite string of love ballads to those fervent tunes like “Stay the Night.” Each member had their spotlight moment with his percussionist and guitarist joining in on duets and even lead vocals. The encore sported a chance for fans to break out their phones and cameras as they all jived to the thrilling finish, which featured “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day” and “25 or 6 to 4.”
