Shooting Star Performed Live at Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City on January 19, 2019

It was an off-the-charts electric and forever cherished moment in time as Kansas City’s ultra-beloved band Shooting Star made its triumphant return at Star Pavilion inside of Ameristar Casino Hotel on January 19, 2019. It was the first show in three and a half years and the first since the passing of the late great singer-songwriter, guitarist and founder Van McLain. Having sold out almost immediately, it was a long-awaited, yet bittersweet occasion for both the group and fans alike.

Featuring founding member Steve Thomas (drums) with classic member Dennis Laffoon (keyboards), frontman Todd Pettygrove, violinist Janet Jameson plus guitar player and newcomer Chet Galloway, the band indulged the audience with those soothing melodic sounds that are so emblematic of Kansas City and 1980s rock. Proud to call it their own, fans, as well as family and friends, reveled in the tunes and in the sentimental instant. Though some time had past since last stepping on stage, Laffoon shared that they never really went away.

They played everything from “You’ve Got What I Need” (1980), which put the band on the map to its biggest hit in “Touch Me Tonight” (1989). There was a certain aura in the air, an enormous nostalgic feeling, but one that only a Kansas City crowd could truly feel to its fullest. Blessed are we though that this was not just a one night only event as Shooting Star is planning more performances for its maniacs. Stay tuned for any future announcements.
